Mo & Kush Band brings together musicians from many nationalities, including the Netherlands, Sudan, Mali, Spain and Tunisia. They combine songs and rhythms from African cultural traditions with Western instruments and styles such as jazz and blues, creating music that is both exciting and instantly recognisable — and above all, made for dancing.
The band takes its name from the ancient Kingdom of Kush (1100 BC – 550 AD), which once flourished in the region of present-day Sudan and southern Egypt. For centuries, this kingdom was a powerful civilisation in the region, known for its distinctive pyramids and the remarkable role women played in public life. Through its name, Mo & Kush Band honours this rich period in history and the spirit of diversity that characterised the kingdom. Peace, equality and love are the values the band seeks to express through its music.
