Maia Steinberg (MAGU) is a Uruguayan singer, composer, sound & song therapist, community musician, interdisciplinary creator, and cultural entrepreneur. She studied Composition in Uruguay, completed a Master’s in Audiovisual Composition in France, and earned additional Bachelor and Master degrees in classical voice in the Netherlands.
As a composer, Maia has written music for film, video games, theatre, opera, museums, and interdisciplinary projects, with award-winning works in Uruguay, France, and Chile. She is the first female composer in Uruguay to premiere an opera in the country.
As a singer, she has performed at renowned venues including the Philharmonie de Paris, Auditorium de Lyon, and Grand Théâtre de Genève, and has taken part in concerts, festivals, and opera productions across Europe and Uruguay. Rooted in her Latin-American heritage, she has led and created various folklore and tango projects in France and the Netherlands, and develops wellbeing-based music initiatives through MAGU (NL) and MANIFIESTO (UY).
Maia is the founder of ProjectA – A Voice Journey, an award-winning platform using vocal art for wellbeing and social impact. Through this, she creates participatory performances, community projects, and immersive sound experiences, and travels internationally to develop vocal-based social transformation projects.
