Last week, the alarming news reached us about the impending closure of Sering in Antwerp. Sering, based in the Antwerp neighborhood of Borgerhout, is one of the pioneer community theatre companies in Flanders. They have been part of our festival since its first edition in 2001 and the influence this company has had on us and our international visitors has been invaluable. For the past 17 years, Sering has been continually setting new standards for our kind of work both in terms of its artistry and its genuine commitment to the people living in their immediate vicinity and in literally exploring international boundaries.
