Pregones Theater is a Bronx-based ensemble founded in 1979, whose mission is (1) to create and perform original musical theater and plays rooted in Puerto Rican/Latino cultures, and (2) to present other performing artists who share a twin commitment to the arts and civic enrichment. Pregones is known for mining connections between theater and popular culture, creating plays with dynamic visual and rhythmic character, and galvanizing multiple generations of theater goers and aspiring artists.
Pregones operates a theater in South Bronx, New York. Four anchor programs – Mainstage, Presenting, Education, and Touring – are offered throughout the year, with original musical plays in Spanish and English, concert series, spoken word, dance, outdoors neighborhood performances and theater community workshops in diverse neighborhoods throughout New York City and beyond.
Pregones Theater has deep roots in the heart of its community, and broad wings that allows it to reach communities with little or no access to the arts.
