Junction Arts

Art discipline: Beeldende kunst
Participated in ICAF in: 2020

Junction Arts is one of the oldest community arts organisations in England. For more than 40 years it has been working in the former mining regions of Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. The company works across art disciplines and develops projects around local heritage and stories. The banner tradition is still alive and well in England. It is used for religious processions and trade union marches. In the Netherlands, this tradition is much less known. The creative process involved in making a banner is very accessible and a useful way to explore group identity and express it visually. It contributes to reflection, pride, and a sense of togetherness. In the week prior to ICAF Junction Arts will create a banner together with various women’s organisations in Rotterdam. Their collective art work will symbolically express the diverse backgrounds and core values of these women.
