Sophie Mantel (1989, Sassenheim) is a theatre maker, visual artist, and the artistic director of Heem. She grew up in a Christian family and has been fascinated since childhood by the rituals and experiences within the church. Through her initiative Heem, she creates art projects across various disciplines, often centered on interfaith and philosophical encounters.
“In our longing for connection within an increasingly diverse society, worldviews and spirituality deserve more attention. In 2025, we are not necessarily less religious — we simply experience it differently: more individually, flexibly, and in mixed forms. Ultimately, worldview is about one’s perspective on life, something that concerns almost everyone to some degree. This makes contemporary art within a spiritual or philosophical context relevant, engaging, and thought-provoking.”
