In de huidige ‘participatiemaatschappij’ is de term participatie niet onproblematisch. Het is een politieke term geworden voor een niet zo sociaal beleid. Het is belangrijk dat we als participatieve kunstsector hier kritisch over na blijven denken en onze rol binnen de maatschappij bevragen en bewust afbakenen. Wat is de rol van de kunstenaar als het gaat om participatieve kunstprocessen? Hoe werkt participatie binnen de kunst? Wat is de waarde ervan en wat de valkuil? Ze vertrekken vanuit de kracht van participatie, waarin Sruti reageert op de voorstellingen die te zien waren op het NWE MKRS festival. Vanuit daar geeft ze een inleiding in de complexiteit van participatie, maar prikkelt ook beleidsmakers, kunstvakdocenten, sociaal werkers en fondsenmedewerkers om kritisch na te denken over de positie die we innemen als participatieve kunstsector in een neoliberale samenleving.
During a conversation with theater scholar Sruti Bala, she and Jasmina delve into the theme of ‘participation’. In today’s ‘participation society’, the term participation is not unproblematic. It has become a political term for a not so social policy. It is important that we, as a participatory art sector, continue to think critically about this and question and consciously define our role within society. What is the role of the artist when it comes to participatory art processes? How does participation work in art? What is its value and what is its pitfall? They start from the power of participation, in which Sruti responds to the performances that were shown at the NWE MKRS festival. From there she provides an introduction to the complexity of participation, but also encourages policy makers, art teachers, social workers and fund staff to think critically about the position we take as a participatory art sector in a neoliberal society.
