Olá Brasil!

Olá Brasil!

At the end of april our artistic director Eugene van Erven and producer Anamaria Cruz travelled around Brazil  to scout community art projects that have links to the ‘Movement’ theme of ICAF 2017. You can follow their journey on Facebook and on this blog, where you can read about their first visit to Edisca, a community dance organization founded to make a difference to the lives of young children in the marginal neighbourhoods in Fortaleza. The trip to Brazil is an important step towards the next edition of ICAF that will take place less than a year from now between 29 March and 3 April 2017. Supported by a special grant from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DutchCulture and FCP) Eugene van Erven and Anamaria Cruz are visiting Pombas Urbanas, Colectivo Estopo Balaio and Grup Ilú Obá de-min in São Paolo, Escola Livre de Dança da Maré in Rio de Janeiro, The University of Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, and Edisca in Fortaleza, among others. Eugene and Anamaria will remain in Brazil until 6 May. They are meeting with Brazilian community artists in their own contexts, give presentations of what ICAF is all about and, hopefully, find a partner to work with in the upcoming ICAF/SAS Summer School at the end of August. To get a first impression of Edisca, here’s a short video that was made during our visit:
