Community, Art, Power: The ICAF Book

In recent months, festival director Eugène van Erven has worked hard on editing essays that have been commissioned especially for an ICAF anthology on the theme “The Power of Community Art”. The book now includes background articles by Matt Jennings about dilemmas in Northern Irish Community Arts, by Kerrie Schaefer about Big hART, by Michael Romanyshyn on Intercultural Community Music, by Edith Scher about the history of Community Theatre in Argentina and by François Matarasso about the changes between Community Arts in the 80’s and now. The book also contains an extensive article on the ICAF seminar with commentary by Jan Cohen-Cruz and a fascinating essay by the indigenous group Debajehmujig from Canada about their special position on the edge of Canadian society.

The new ICAF book also includes a 55-minute video documentary that tries to catch different dimensions of Community Arts and power. The book and video will be published in December 2012 and can then be purchased via our website.
