Two of last year’s ICAF participants have edited new books on community art in their home countries. Eva García of Transformas in Barcelona has edited a special edition of Abierto al Público [‘Open to the Public’] entitled Artes Escénicas y Comunidad. In it, she introduces community art in all its variety to a Spanish readership associated with ‘La Red’, the network of public theatres, auditoriums, circuits and festivals.
Hugo Cruz, artistic director of Pele in Porto, has edited a book entitled Arte e Comunidade: Trajetórias e Olhares Transversais. It will be published by the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon next month. Both books – to which ICAF has also contributed – are clear signs that community art is now well and truly on the agenda in southern Europe.
