Symphony Arabica

Registration

Unusual music project brings Arab and Symphonic music together. Different worlds unite on one stage: professional musicians from Europe and the Middle East, students and teachers from several music academies in Holland, local amateur musicians and children. During his travels trough the Middle East, Merlijn collected music, people, poems and memories that found a place in the composition. The music is a combination of his own style and the rich living tradition of Arab music. Musicians from Palestine (the renowned group Sabreen with Wisam Murad), Iraq, Syria, Morocco and Iran are part of this project. Aditionally, large groups of local amateurs and children are included in the orchestra. They received workshops in contemporary and Arab music and perform all together. The premier was on 15 May 2008, exact 60 years after the British mandate ended in 1948 Palestine.
