A few days ago, cyclone Amphan hit Bangladesh and Northeast India, killing many people and destroying countless buildings. One of the hardest hit enterprises is Jana Sanskriti, one of the largest Theatre of the Oppressed organizations in the world. Jana Sanskriti is much more than a theatre company: Since 1985 it has been generating an expanding sociocultural movement working particularly with landless farmers in West-Bengal on issues of gender equality, healthcare, local democracy and community engagement.
Thanks to Formaat, the only professional theatre of the oppressed organization in Holland, we at ICAF had the privilege of meeting a powerful performance ensemble of Jana Sanskriti in 2008 and again in 2015. We became very impressed with their art and their commitment to placing it at the service of developing a truly egalitarian, environmentally conscious society. Please surf to the website below and consider helping them so that they can rebuild the physical structures of their communities and can continue their important work in and beyond the theatre.
