Sophie is our newest ICAF NWE MKR. She began her trajectory with ICAF in April this year and will be working closely with ICAF and Rotterdams Wijktheater towards the presentation of her performance later this year.
After several years of working in healthcare in various settings, Sophie felt it was time for a moment of reflection. With a wealth of experience and knowledge at her side, she felt the urgency to collect and share stories from people that often don’t get a stage. She wanted to translate these stories into a theatrically engaging presentation. In short: a desire to make community theatre.
This came to the backdrop of news reports about increasing waiting lists in healthcare, more people being unable to receive the correct care, and criticism of the healthcare system more generally. Leading Sophie to question: how is it that healthcare in the Netherlands seems so elusive?
That’s why, as a New Maker, and current student at Fontys Theatre Academy, Sophie is curiously embarking on a journey to explore the stories of care providers. Questioning what it’s like, for example, to want to help as a care provider but sometimes not being able to? Why this work? How to relate to critical news reports?
The findings will be transformed into a performance created together with care providers from Rotterdam as part of ICAF NWE MKRS on the last week of October this year.
