There Is Another Way<\/em> follows activists from Combatants for Peace, a bi-national movement founded by former Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters who, in 2006, chose to lay down their weapons and jointly resist, through non-violent means, the system of oppression under which they had lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their methods include education and art \u2014 partly inspired by Augusto Boal\u2019s Theatre of the Oppressed<\/em> \u2014 alongside grassroots activities such as joint olive harvests, protests, and protective presence with Palestinian communities in the West Bank who are threatened by settler violence and military force. Through personal storytelling, they create space for dialogue and empathy, drawing on their own experiences of personal transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film follows the group as they try to make sense of the devastating consequences of the occupation and the apartheid regime imposed by the State of Israel, including the Hamas attack on 7 October, the genocide in Gaza, and the ongoing colonisation of Palestinian land. \u201cIn the midst of darkness we discover who we really are,\u201d the filmmakers write on their website. The film shows that peace is not merely an abstract ideal, but a daily choice that requires courage in times of fear, loss and deep division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film opens space for reflection, empathy and dialogue, inviting us to look beyond walls, systems of power and forms of exclusion, and to rediscover our shared humanity. There Is Another Way<\/em> navigates bravely through grief and suffering to reveal what lies on the other side: hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the screening, a short pre-recorded conversation with the founders of Combatants for Peace will be shown. Together, the discussion reflects on themes of peace, reconciliation and solidarity, and explores what it means to choose another way \u2014 in situations of violence and injustice, and in our daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Combatants for Peace, opgericht in 2006, is een non-profit, vrijwilligersorganisatie van ex-strijdende Isra\u00ebli's en Palestijnse mannen en vrouwen, die hun wapens hebben neergelegd en alle geweldsmiddelen hebben afgewezen. Ze werken samen om een einde te maken aan de bezetting van Palestina, rechtvaardige vrede in het land te brengen en te laten zien dat Isra\u00ebli's en Palestijnen samen kunnen werken en leven. <\/p>\n\n

De missie van Combatants for Peace is om de sociale infrastructuur te bouwen die nodig is voor het be\u00ebindigen van het conflict en de bezetting en om gemeenschappen te vormen van Palestijnen en Isra\u00ebli's die samenwerken via geweldloze middelen om vrede te bevorderen. Ze geloven dat dergelijke gemeenschappen als een rolmodel voor beide partijen kunnen dienen en door middel van actie kunnen aantonen dat er een echt alternatief is voor de cyclus van geweld. Zij zijn van mening dat het op grote schaal verspreiden van dergelijke activiteiten van invloed kan en zal zijn op attitudeveranderingen op maatschappelijk niveau en beleidsveranderingen op politiek niveau. <\/p>\n\n

Strijders voor vrede zien zichzelf als een sterke, belangrijke, invloedrijke, binationale gemeenschap - een gemeenschap die een voorbeeld is van levensvatbare samenwerking en co\u00ebxistentie tussen Palestijnen en Isra\u00ebli's. Het is een beweging gebaseerd op geweldloos activisme, ontworpen om de be\u00ebindiging van de bezetting te bevorderen en een basis te leggen voor de betrekkingen tussen de twee volkeren na een vredesakkoord.
