On the occasion of the ICAF 2023, Chaabi Habibi presents the project ‘Le Myst\u00e8re des Voix Chaabi’. Musicologist H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Sechehaye and singer La\u00efla Amezian explain how women from the Moroccan diaspora make the musical chaabi tradition their own and in turn pass it on to new generations. On the programme: a conference about this popular music style from Morocco and the trajectory it has traveled to our region, followed by a short singing initiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This workshop will look to the question: what is popular chaabi music? How did the genre originate? What role did women play in this? And how much is the colorful poetry of these songs, which often deal with love and everyday life, but also the universe or other mystical subjects, still relevant today. Join us on a journey to discover the essence of this traditional music style from Morocco, as it is now experienced in Western Europe. Het Brusselse MetX is een productiehuis gemaakt voor en door muzikanten. In nauwe samenwerking met artiesten afkomsten van verschillende horizonten cre\u00ebren ze originele repertoires en muziekgroepen. Hun missie is tweeledig: ten eerste produceren en promoten ze groepen als M\u00e2\u00e4k, BRUiTAL, Remork & Karkaba of Fanfakids, die elk een eigenzinnige en contextgerichte muziekpraktijk presenteren. Ten tweede door de repertoires en opgedane kennis van hun muziekmakers zoveel mogelijk open te stellen en door te geven, zodat anderen daarop kunnen voortbouwen door middel van workshops en participatieve uitvoeringen.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hun akoestisch universum integreert zowel elementen uit de Westerse jazz- en improvisatiecultuur als uit Urban Ethno<\/em>, traditionele muziek gedragen door de verschillende culturen die woonachtig zijn in een metropool als Brussel. Eenmaal met wederzijds respect vermengt door onze muzikanten, evolueert dit artistiek materiaal naar een volledig nieuwe muziekcultuur. Soms luid, soms zacht, soms mooi, soms lelijk. Nooit gelikt.
