Het Rotterdams Wijktheater heeft meer dan 30 jaar ervaring in het transformeren van verhalen van gewone Rotterdammers tot theatervoorstellingen. Opgericht in 1992 en structureel gesubsidieerd door de stad Rotterdam is het een van de oudste continu actieve community arts ondernemingen in Nederland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In deze workshop maakt u onder leiding van twee RWT-regisseurs kennis met hun ervaringen en methodieken. Samen met hen onderzoekt u de drie fases van het creatieve proces: het delen van verhalen; het omvormen van verhaal tot voorstelling en het presenteren van de resultaten aan een publiek. In iedere fase combineren de regisseurs een paar oefeningen met een moment van reflectie op de bredere maatschappelijke en politieke implicaties van deze bijzondere theaterpraktijk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
De begeleiders van deze workshop zijn de regisseurs van de recente RWT-productie Zomaar een straat<\/em>, een project over armoede en schulden in de grote stad. RWT achieves this by creating work that connects closely with the experiences of the audiences they want to reach out to. RWT also organises the International Community Arts Festival (ICAF) every three years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n RWT uses the following proven and effective methods for their work:\u00a0 Every year, dozens of local members of the community step onto the stage for the first time in their lives. For many, this is a life-changing experience. RWT performs between 70 and 80 times annually, for a total audience of around 10,000 people. In turn, these audiences often produce new generations of RWT actors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n RWT makes theatre aimed at specific target audiences, previously examples have included young people, women who are unable to leave the house in the evening, and the elderly. RWT sometimes collaborate with welfare organisations to produce educationally oriented performances that focus on subjects such as domestic violence, teenage motherhood, female circumcision and the relationship between young people and the police. Every two years RWT produces a large-scale site-specific work. This involves working for a period of eighteen months in the selected neighbourhood with large numbers of locals.
