Welkom bij dit muzikale samenzijn; een buurtopera met 30 buurtbewoners van de \u0160an\u010diai buurt in Kaunas, Litouwen, midden in de Tarwewijk Rotterdam! Versterkt door een team van professionele muzikanten brengen de buurtbewoners uit Kaunas het verhaal van hun wijk \u0160an\u010diai, waar ze zich nauw mee verbonden voelen, naar Rotterdam-Zuid. De \u201cCabbage Field\u201d \u2018Koolveld\u2019] Opera is het verhaal van een voormalig militair terrein binnen de wijk \u0160an\u010diai dat de laatste jaren teruggevorderd is door buurtbewoners. Samen doken ze in de geschiedenis en in de verhalen van de plek. Wat ze vonden vertaalden ze naar deze opera vol verhalen over liefde, oorlog, gemeenschap en verzoening. Na deze ontroerende muzikale performance in de binnentuin van Cultuurwerkplaats Tarwewijk, nodigt de groep je uit voor een informeel samenzijn, onder het genot van een warme kop koolsoep, gemaakt door hen zelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Het participatieve maakproces van de “Cabbage Field” opera begon in 2018. Op verschillende momenten werden buurtbewoners uitgenodigd deel te nemen aan het creatieve proces en de repetities voor de opera vonden in het openbaar plaats, zodat iedereen kon deelnemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cToen ik thuiskwam van mijn werk, en uit de bus stapte zag ik aan de overkant van de bushalte een kleurrijke buurtbus geparkeerd staan. Er kwam muziek vandaan. Iemand van binnen de bus riep naar me: \u2018kom binnen, zing met ons mee!\u2019. Ik sprong aan boord, en sindsdien zing ik. (Dangira Pik\u0161rien\u0117, community opera deelnemer)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Het libretto is gemaakt door 11 verschillende amateurschrijvers en is ontstaan tijdens community-schrijfworkshops. De muziek is gecomponeerd door Vidmantas Bartulis, winnaar van de Litouwse Nationale Prijs voor Cultuur. Helaas is hij overleden voordat het laatste deel van de opera klaar was. Regie en choreografie is in handen van Lina Puod\u017eiukait\u0117-Lanauskien\u0117. The name comes from the public space between Juozapavi\u010dius Avenue and Suomi\u0173 St., which was resurrected from the garbage dump by the community. Previously, this area was in the 19th century. barracks cellars for sauerkraut. The original arched sauerkraut warehouses have survived to this day. The libretto was created by community members. Professional and non-professional artists of the troupe are related to Shantis in various ways. All events and characters are inspired by local people and their stories. The music was composed by Vidmantas Bartulis, winner of the Lithuanian National Prize. The composer died, leaving the musical part of the opera unfinished. Though the opera involves professional musicians, all of the participating actors are directly from the community.
