OsoToriOso is een mobiel erfgoed- en verhalenproject rond de traditionele houten volkswoningen van Suriname, de oso\u2019s. Deze huizen werden\u202ftijdens en na de slavernij\u202fgebouwd door timmerlieden van Afrikaanse oorsprong die hun vrijheid\u202fhadden verworven.\u202fBinnen een systeem van onderdrukking en uitbuiting cre\u00eberden zij met hun vakmanschap plekken van trots, gemeenschap en hoop. De oso\u2019s dragen tot op vandaag verhalen van verzet, collectieve veerkracht en doorgegeven kennis in zich. Ze zijn het fundament van OsoToriOso.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Het project is ontwikkeld in nauwe samenwerking met (oud-)bewoners, bouwers en makers in Suriname en Nederland, en met scholen en\u202fculturele organisaties in Suriname. Onderzoek naar de bouw van zo\u2019n huis (die ook in het klein werd nagebouwd) belicht het vakmanschap van de ambachtslieden die ze hebben gemaakt. In Paramaribo, Amsterdam en nu in Rotterdam delen mensen persoonlijke herinneringen van het leven in deze huizen door samen te bouwen, te praten en te onderzoeken.\u202fZo ontstaat een levend archief waarin koloniale geschiedenis en hedendaagse identiteitsvragen samenkomen.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n
OsoToriOso nodigt bezoekers uit om stil te staan bij het gedeelde verleden van Suriname en Nederland, en bij hoe deze geschiedenis doorwerkt in het heden \u2014 in huizen, in herinneringen en in mensen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
