Basket Beat is een collectief van professionals met een achtergrond in speciaal onderwijs, pedagogiek, muziektherapie en de kunsten. Samen gebruiken ze een door hen zelf ontworpen methodiek om met mensen in achtergestelde omstandigheden aan persoonlijke groei te werken. De kern van hun aanpak is het groepsgewijs scheppen, leren en spelen van muziek met basketballen. Het project is in 2009 ontstaan en is sindsdien enorm gegroeid, waardoor het de aandacht trok van verschillende maatschappelijke, artistieke en politieke instellingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Spanje verzorgen de Basket Beat trainers iedere week meer dan 30 workshops. Ze bereiken gemiddeld 5.000 mensen per jaar. In 2013 en 2014 bezocht Basket Beat wereldwijd 120 community arts organisaties en verozrgde 75 workshops. Na dat toernee bleef Basket Beat ook buiten Spanje internationaal actief. Ze begeleidde intensieve groepsprocessen in gevangenissen en met jeugdgroepen en verzorgde trainingen op universiteiten in Frankrijk en Duitsland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Basket Beat ziet het als haar belangrijkste taak om sociaalpedagogische workshops te verzorgen in scholen, gevangenissen en publieke instellingen. De resultaten van de interventies worden verwerkt in academische publicaties en trainingshandleidingen, zodfat ook anderen met de Basket Beat methodologie aan de slag kunnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basket Beat is an entity, a project and a methodology with which they accompany people in their personal growth, especially those with fewer opportunities, through the creation and learning of music in groups and with basketballs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most powerful examples of how sound, rhythm, music, and percussion can contribute to positive change is Basket Beat from Barcelona. Basket Beat is a participatory music project, and working methodology, developed by Josep Maria Aragay, that uses basketballs as percussion instruments to help young people in disadvantaged situations or in closed institutions such as prisons, with their personal development and critical thinking skills.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through workshop formats, Basket Beat facilitate valuable group processes where participants learn to trust each other and feel responsible for one another - because they are all equally responsible for keeping the rhythm alive. With their combination of social-artistic work, sound, rhythm, beats and group work, Basket Beat show how making music together can build bridges between people from many different contexts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project was born in 2009 from the hand of Josep M\u00aa Aragay who, after 3 years working in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bembarked on a journey with the desire to learn from other experiences as well as disseminate and evaluate the methodology he had developed.\u00a0He visited 120 community arts projects and conducted more than 75 workshops and talks that have taken Basketbeat to Britain, France, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, South Africa, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Iran and Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The raison d'\u00eatre of Basketbeat is to carry out socio-educational workshops in schools, institutes, prisons, public facilities, etc.\u00a0The content they generate during this workshops leads to research and publications as well as the providing of training for students and professionals on the social use of the arts and the Basketbeat methodology.\u00a0Basketbeat have also created a basketball orchestra that offers career opportunities for young people.
