Awards and Nominations

We are very proud to announce that Berith Danse from Theatre Embassy International has been nominated for the Ellen Stewart Award. This international award is given to a theatre artist or theatre company whose work promotes social change and community participation with a particular focus on the engagement for young people. We congratulate Theatre Embassy on this richly deserved acknowledgment for their work, with which we at ICAF are proud to be associated. We also like to congratulate Big hART on Blue Angel’s nomination for a Tasmanian Theatre Award. Lastly, we are looking forward to learning about the nominations for this year’s Leadership in Community-Based Theatre and Civic Engagement Award by which The Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) honours the achievements of an individual whose excellent work has made a sustained and meaningful impact on the field of community-based theatre and civic engagement. Previous winners include John Somers and our very own former ICAF in residence, Jan Cohen-Cruz. If there is one thing we can learn from the recognition and appreciation these artists receive, it is that art has an impact on the world, which is a message we all need to hear, especially considering the challenges that face us in the world today.
