On Friday 27 March, Formaat (Holland’s only professional Theatre of the Oppressed Company) is hosting a one-day symposium on the Polarized Model of theatre of the Oppressed. Special guests will be the Combatants for Peace, an extraordinary organization from Israel/Palestina. It is composed of former Israeli officers and fighters of Al Fatah who have decided to lay down arms and foster cross-cultural dialogue through theatre and other peaceful cultural activities. A Formaat delegation (which included Eugene van Erven of ICAF) visited Israel and Palestine between 2 and 8 January earlier this year to witness first-hand what FcP’s work entails. Since its return, Formaat is trying to implement the FcP methodology to foster dialogue across generational, political and cultural divides in Rotterdam. Formaat calls its project ‘Across the Bridge’.
