Bring your orphaned sock…

Bring your orphaned sock…

… and find a mate (for the sock)!  Ut and Anat Shamai, two Israeli visual artists who have many years of experience working at the community level both in their home country and abroad, are coming to Rotterdam to work with festival visitors and passers-by from the neighbourhood on the creation of a large sock mosaic. In 2011 they entered the Guiness Book of World Records with the world’s largest sock mosaic, which they created with residents of the town of Netanya. These included religious and secular Jews, Arabs, Ethiopians, Russian immigrants, old and young. Ut and Anat are asking you to pack as many of your single socks (who lost their mates in the laundry) as possible and help them create a beautiful carpet mosaic from these otherwise useless pieces of clothing. They firmly believe that art as a universal language bridges gaps of cultures, religions, generations, and genders. Come check out for yourself whether you think they are right. Ut and Anat will be working on their mosaic on several days of the festival. On Saturday afternoon route 5 will take you straight to them.
