Our Summer School on the art of parade making has kicked off!  Participants from all over the world are now in Utrecht to follow masterclasses from the international guest teachers. For those who cannot attend the full program, there are the following possibilies to experience the Summer School:

1. International Summer School: be part of making the parade “De Grote Trek van Leidsche Rijn”!
From Monday 22 to Sunday 28 August ICAF and Sharing Arts Society organise a Summer School on the art of parade making. The Summer School ends in a colourful street parade on Sunday afternoon. During the Summer School the parade is designed in workshops conducted by the following international guest artists:

  • Maria Gomide (Belo Horizonte, Brazil)
  • João Junior (São Paulo, Brazi)
  • Sifiso Majola (Durban, South Africa)
  • Fanfakids (Brussels, Belgium)

These experienced artists have claimed back streets, townships and favela’s from crime and terror by making artistic colourful parades. Participants from all over the world come to Utrecht to follow workshops, and you can follow one too: on Saturday the workshops (10.00 – 17.00h) are open and free to everyone!

> Summerschool, Saturday 27 August, De Vrijstaat (route), 10.00 – 17.00.

2. The Great Migration Camp: take a blanket and sit down by the fire
On Friday evening August 26 we will create a temporary camp at the Berlijnplein that includes a big camp fire, torches, semi-acoustic live music and performances. At the heart of the evening is a speech by the Egyptian/Dutch theatre artist Sabri Saad El Hamus about the urgent need for a sharing society and the crucial role of art in it. Everyone is welcome!

> The Great Migration Camp, Friday 26 August, Berlijnplein, 20.00 – 23.00.

3. De Grote Trek van Leidsche Rijn: walk in the parade and be part of a nomadic family…
The parade starts on Sunday afternoon 28 August at 14.00 at the Berlijnplein. For one hour the parade, which includes music, acts, statues and living horses will grace the streets of Leidsche Rijn to end in the Amaliapark. The connecting element of De Grote Trek is the nomadic family feeling that makes all the participants, wherever they come from, into one Grande Famiglia. Central in the parade is the figure of the horse, which has protected, carried and guided human beings in their wanderings around the world for centuries. You can participate as well, the parade is free and for every age!
